Coinins Stand

Coinin, Irish word for a rabbit is formed from ancient Irish bog wood recovered from the blanket bog landscape of Donegal. Hidden beneath the earth for centuries, perhaps millennia, the piece evokes extinction, habitat loss and the damage inflicted on wildlife by man. Its single wide eye searches the horizon, a creature seemingly stranded between survival and disappearance. Dark and mournful, it is a statement sculpture about nature, memory and the brutal contest between the natural world and human intervention.
