Ifreann's Key
The Record
Every discovery is released with a signed certificate of authenticity recording its materials, dimensions and provenance.
Ifreann’s Key takes its name from the Irish languge and the word for hell. Its form suggests an object of dark pagan reverence, something once carried, worshipped or feared. Carved from ancient Irish bog wood, its fractured, glistening surface and gilded markings give the impression of an artefact recovered from another time, its original purpose long since lost. An inscription in ancient Aramaic runs across its surface, offering perhaps the only remaining clue to what the object once meant to those who held it before.
Inspiration & Notes
I don't know if I discovered it, or it discovered me but i knew exactly what it was when i ripped it from the bog and it was in my hand. Its inscription is left for the viewer to decipher, as is the question of what, precisely, it was intended for.
Inspiration is drawn from idolatary, the christian cross, a relic from the video game Doom Eternal, an ancient key or relic.
