True to the spirit of RUIN, Last Dinosaur was cut from a larger Discovery and almost discarded. Its form emerged from the refuse pile, a fragment of weathered wood that seemed to be reaching upward. The piece evokes a creature at the edge of extinction, stretching out in one final effort to survive annihilation. Dark, raw and one of a kind, Last Dinosaur is a smaller contemporary sculpture from ancient bogwood, and speaks about survival, extinction and life forms lost to time.

Inspiration & Notes

A baby dinosaur in desperation reaching up, Littlefoot from the animated movie The Land Before Time (1988) comes to mind. It's almost like it is asking to be lifted, to be saved.
